At the 1965 12th Tokyo Motor Show, excitement and enthusiasm filled the venue. At the center of it all, a car made its debut as its name was announced. This was the debut of the Toyota 2000GT, a car that has become one of the most famous in Japanese automotive history. With its sleek body, Toyota’s first DOHC engine for passenger cars, rosewood meter panel, and mahogany wood steering wheel, it was a masterpiece of craftsmanship, developed in collaboration with Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. The 2000GT later competed in races, with its prototype achieving a 1-2 finish in its second race. It also challenged FIA and JAF-sanctioned endurance speed trials, setting three world records and 13 international records, which heightened expectations. In April 1967, Toyota’s prestigious grand touring car was released to the world.
