• Synopsis:

  • Ryunosuke, who has lost his mother to illness, is aimlessly wandering after losing his will to live. He is attacked by imperial loyalists heading to Kyoto, losing his belongings and left with nothing but the prospect of starvation. Just as he is about to give up, he encounters Serizawa Kamo, who is on his way to Kyoto as part of the Shinsengumi.
  • Ryunosuke is taken in by Serizawa and, although unwillingly, begins to accompany him. This place, which becomes his temporary residence, is the base of what will later be known as the Shinsengumi, a group of sword-wielding warriors.
  • Despite his disdain for samurai due to his upbringing, Ryunosuke comes to know the ambitions and dreams of those who aspire to be samurai. This interaction leads to a transformation in his perspective as he grapples with what it means to be a "samurai" and where his own path lies.
