Introduction:
Candles flicker atop a cake as a girl celebrates her birthday. Her father, who is usually busy with work, is there today. The girl is more excited about having the family together than the birthday itself.
“Happy Birthday!” she smiles as she opens her present.
While walking through the floor where Yumetaro's stuffed animals are sold, the father arrives, guided by a store clerk to buy a gift. In a panic, Yumetaro hides among the mountain of stuffed animals, where many pink plush toys that resemble him are piled up.
The father suddenly stops and picks up Yumetaro. Continuing to pretend to be a stuffed animal, Yumetaro ends up in a ribboned box and arrives at the girl’s house.
The girl loves Yumetaro and takes him back to her room, where he feels the gaze of other stuffed animals watching her.
Because she lavishes so much attention on Yumetaro, the other stuffed animals feel anxious that they may no longer be loved as they used to be.
One night, the stuffed animals suddenly come to life and take the girl to another realm. Left alone on top of the dresser, Yumetaro sets off to search for the girl in the realm where the stuffed animals have gone.
