The protagonist, a government agency exorcist, Ayato Oda, is tasked with investigating and destroying a cursed object, "Fujou Benishikami" (不浄紅顰), which has been brought to "Murakumo Academy," a school that teaches the art of swordsmanship.
Alongside his team, including "Tsukitaka Himeka" and "Shinonome Ruri," Ayato discovers that the cursed object is in the possession of the daughter of the "Sword Protection Society," "Kazamine Marika."
After successfully destroying the cursed object, Marika becomes a point of spiritual disaster, leading to a series of events that require Ayato to take her on as a temporary disciple to teach her how to fight the supernatural.
Set in a near-future world where supernatural occurrences are rampant, Ayato and Marika embark on a love story through a winter filled with strange and dangerous phenomena.
